March Madness: teacher bracket

March 24, 2017

March Madness is upon us and prior to the tournament we had some of our teachers here at Weber fill out brackets. Let’s take a look at how they’ve done.

Ms. Singleton is in 1st place among the Weber teachers. She picked 23/32 winners in the 1st round, and then raised the bar by correctly picking 12/16 sweet sixteen teams. Sadly for her, Duke, which she had in her finals, lost in the round of 32. Her bracket is one to look after for the remainder of the tournament.

Score: 470

Best Possible Score: 1310

Place: 1st

Mr. Settles topped the charts in round 1 picking 26/32 winners. In the second round he slowed down a bit and picked 10/16 games correctly. He is still in it to win it as he still has 3 of his Final Four teams left. His missed games mainly consist of upsets and incorrectly chosen upsets.

Score: 460

Best Possible Score: 1340

Place: 2nd

Dr. Kini predicted 23/32 winners correct in the first round and 10/16 winners correct in the second round. Her bracket is highlighted by her prediction of Wisconsin upsetting Villanova and predicting the Midwest region 100% in the first two round of the tournament. On the contrary, her chosen champion, Duke, lost to South Carolina in the round of 32.

Score: 430

Best Possible Score: 1030

Place: Third

Mr. Roby correctly picked a 25/32 winners in the first round. Unfortunately, his luck turned in the second round and he ended up losing 4 Elite Eight Teams that include 3 final four teams and both finals teams whilst only getting 7/16 winners correct. His bracket is highlighted by his good first round and lowlighted by his lack of elite eight and further teams.

Score: 390

Best Possible Score: 590

Place: Fourth

Ms. Herman’s bracket may seem done for the rest of the tournament, but her final teams have been strong as Florida just killed Virginia and UCLA is looking to beat Kentucky in the Sweet Sixteens. She got 24/32 games correct in the first round, but only got 7 winners correct in the second. 4 of her Elite Eight teams lost in the second round including 2 of her Final Four Teams. Her bracket highlight is that she is the only teacher left with both Finals teams.

Score: 380

Best Possible Score: 1340

Place: Tied Fifth

Ms. Geppert’s method of choosing the underdogs didn’t suit her well this year as her chosen winner, Maryland, lost in round 1. She correctly picked 20/32 winners in the first round and 9/16 winners in the second round. She also has ¼ final four teams left, ½ finals teams left. Her bracket is highlighted by her prediction of Wisconsin upsetting Villanova and lowlighted by her lack of late Final Four and Championship teams left.

Score: 380

Best Possible Score: 820

Place: Tied Fifth
