The Hawks’ road to victory

November 14, 2017

On Sunday, November 5, the Atlanta Hawks and the Cleveland Cavaliers, who happen to be winners of the 2016 NBA finals, faced off. The Cavaliers had an advantage since they were playing at home. Point guard Dennis Schroder, a dedicated Hawks player, scored 28 points.

The Hawks defeated the Cavaliers 117-115, despite five Hawks players—Tyler Cavanaugh, Malcolm Delaney, Ersan ILyasova, Miles Plumlee, and DeAndre’ Bembry—missing from the game, according to USA Today. A few of them were injured and some were off for this game.

Well known NBA player, Lebron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers, scored 26 points and had 13 assists which met his expectations. The game was intense, and the Hawks put forth substantial effort that night.

It was neck and neck. Isaiah Taylor, a player for the Hawks, missed two free throws in a number of seconds while Dwyane Wade’s tip fell off the rim. In other words, the arc of his shot had fell off the rim of the basket. Both teams were fighting hard for the win that night and it was definitely recognizable that both teams wanted to win.

By the third quarter, the Hawks were ahead because Schroder had scored a total of 11 points. Cavaliers player Kevin Love left in the third quarter because he did not feel well. Another Cavaliers player, Kyle Korver, scored 19 points in the fourth quarter which put his team ahead. However, this did not stop the Hawks from getting ahead in the last seven minutes, during which Cavaliers Coach Tyronn Lue called two timeouts, desperate to end the game with a win.

The Hawks emerged victorious. Coach Mike Budenholzer of the Hawks must have felt very proud and liberated after beating one of the top NBA basketball teams in the league.

The Hawks have not had any wins at home this season, but they are improving. This game in particular was a huge win for the Hawks. Additionally, this shows that the Hawks have a very strong team if they were able to beat Lebron James and his fellow teammates. If the Atlanta Hawks keep this up, they will definitely have a bright future this season.
