This year’s boys varsity team consists of Daniel Livnat, Jordan Arbiv, Nadav Yeglin, Zach Negin, Eli Meyers, Adam Spector, Miles Barkowitz, Tristan Hulsebos, Sam Bronfman, Ben Finkelstein, Ryan Gold and Brent Rodgers. They have gotten off to a great start. The team’s starters are Livnat, Arbiv, Yeglin, Negin and Bronfman.
The varsity team has played five games to date. The first game was against The Galloway School and ended in a loss, the second game against Brandon Hall resulted in a win, the third game against Landmark Christian Academy ended in a win, the fourth game against Fellowship Christian ended in a loss and the fifth game against Greater Gwinnett Christian resulted in a loss.
On Tuesday, November 21, the team drove to the Landmark Christian Academy for their third game of the season. Last year, the Landmark Christian Academy beat Weber’s varsity team, which made the team nervous to play them. The highly ranked team was Weber’s biggest competition so far, as Junior Ryan Gold said, “I was nervous, that’s for sure. I knew I wanted the win, and I knew we were going to have to work for the win. I was determined: we all were.”
Unfortunately, not all the players left the game as healthy as they were when the game started. Junior Sam Bronfman said in an interview, “I was playing defense on my man, when I suddenly noticed Daniel Livnat’s opponent slashing towards the basket with the ball. I swiped down at the ball, but I missed and hit his leg. I howled in pain. I told Coach to call timeout, and after that I stayed on the bench. However, in the fourth quarter, I went back in the game with a broken finger, and played my heart out. Unfortunately though, the following day I was diagnosed with a broken finger and will be out four weeks. I love my team and this is just a minor setback for a major comeback.”
In addition to the varsity boys’ team, Weber also has a varsity girls team. Mollie Schwartz, Lindsey Gelernter, Abbie Barkan, Brooke Orenstein, Sydney Fialkow, Chloe Lipton, Arielle Roth and Hope Linder are all members of the team.
The team has played in six games so far. The first game against The Galloway School resulted in a loss, the second game against North Springs Charter High School resulted in a close loss, the third game against Brandon Hall resulted in a victory, the fourth game against Greater Gwinnett Christian resulted in a loss, the fifth game against Fideles Christian resulted in a loss and the sixth game against Atlanta Girls’ School resulted in a loss. The girls’ season has gotten off to a eventful start. The girls are looking forward to a successful season ahead, as they are hoping for many wins in their upcoming games.
Senior and captain, Mollie Schwarz, is playing her fourth season of basketball at Weber. She is excited for her final season playing as a Weber Ram, and said, “as a fairly new team we’re playing better and I can’t wait to see how we do as the season progresses.”
Stay tuned for new results, and make sure you attend and cheer on your Weber Rams at upcoming games.
