This year, at The Weber School, Advanced Placement (AP) 21 courses were offered. These courses were English Language and Composition, English Literature and Composition, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Statistics, Biology, Environmental Science, Physics I, Physics C, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, U.S. Government and Politics, U.S. History, World History, Studio Art, Drawing, Spanish Language, Computer Science and Psychology.
Weber junior, Mikey Kobrinsky stated, “on a scale of 1 to 10, I was about a 6 in terms of stress over AP exams.” Mikey also explained that, “Finals are less stressful than AP exams because a lot of the teachers are able make the exams semester based and not the whole year.” When Mikey was asked about how healthy it is to stress over AP exams, he simply stated, “It was not unhealthy but it was not healthy either.” Mikey’s message to people who are studying for AP exams is to “not study past 12:00 midnight because you won’t be able to retain the information as much.”
Another junior, Daniel Ginzberg explained, “final exams and projects are less stressful than AP exams.” Daniel also stated, “the amount of stress I had for AP exams was unhealthy. There were many nights during my studying where I could not fall asleep.” When Daniel was asked how someone can cope with stress over exams in general, he explained that, “once you finish whatever you need to do, you can do whatever you want.” Daniel also specified, “If you set your mind to it, anything is possible.”
Studies found that there are nine ways to maintain a healthy mood while studying for exams. Listening to classical music can create a very productive work enviriorment. Taking a quick walk, whether it is in the hallway of your house, or around your neighborhood could actually, refresh your brain. Instead of just studying everyday all over the place, create a studying plan. This will help keep you organized. It will also help you to feel less overwhelmed. Getting a healthy amount of sleep is essential or else you will not feel too great. Downloading mobile apps such as fun math games, or a language game will keep your brain active, which means you will have a better time concentrating on your work. Meditating also helps to calm your mind. If your mind is clear, you will feel more calm, therefore, less stressed, and more motivated to study. Eating dark chocolate will help decrease your amount of stress for exams. Lastly, keep your phone completely shut off. Your phone can be a huge distraction. Most people do not even realize how much time their phone can take away from studying.
Exams are stressful. It is crucial to maintain a healthy sleep schedule and mood in the wake of AP exams and final exams.
