When school began in August, I began waking up 20 minutes later than I had in the past. I quickly realized that sleeping an extra 20 minutes was significant in the mornings for me. Rather than having time to eat breakfast, I believe that sleeping longer is a major component to having energy in my everyday life. Making sure I get a good night’s rest is what gives me the most strength throughout the day. I have never been one to eat breakfast as I am not hungry in the mornings due to it being too early and not being in the mood for food. On the weekends, I am a very late sleeper and tend to wake up in the afternoon, so waking up at 7 AM during the weekdays feels like the middle of the night to me.
In my opinion, I do not think that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, many other peers of mine function just fine without eating in the morning as well. Talia Neufeld, a Junior at The Weber School, claims that “breakfast is not the most essential meal because there is always lunch”. When I wake up in the morning, I am never hungry immediately, which usually means that I will not eat breakfast. Yet, I still can operate at the same rate as others. Although I do enjoy breakfast foods, you will never find me eating them in the morning. Mr. Bennett, a teacher at The Weber School, says “No, breakfast is not the most important meal of the day, I believe that is just a cultural myth.” In addition, it is proven that skipping breakfast will not cause any health issues for any person.
I tend to believe that lunch is the most beneficial meal of the day due to the fact that towards the middle of the day is when my body starts to wear out and become the most tired, needing food to re-energize. Especially for us students, lunch is very key being that it tends to lie right in the middle of our school day when our minds start to lack vigor and our attention spans start to decrease. Camille Yoels, a Weber sophomore, says “No, I don’t eat breakfast because, in my opinion, people who take AD-HD medicine are not as hungry in the mornings and the idea of food makes me nauseous. This is why I think lunch is a more important meal.”
In recent studies, it shows that there is no difference of metabolic rates between people who eat breakfast consistently than those who skip breakfast everyday. Eating a hearty breakfast in the morning is the exact same as eating a big lunch or dinner in the afternoon, saying that all meals have the same effect on your health and body.
I do not personally think that breakfast is as important as a lot of people make it out to be. I wake up every morning not hungry at all and can make it to lunch perfectly satisfied with no food in my body. Therefore, I do not need breakfast to fuel me or give me energy for the day.
